Turner was seventy years old when Whalers debuted to mixed reviews at the Royal Academy exhibition of 1845. Its subject proved elusive, as the English novelist William Thackeray observed: "That is not a smear of purple you see yonder, but a beautiful whale, whose tail has just slapped a half-dozen whale-boats into perdition; and as for what you fancied to be a few zig-zag lines spattered on the canvas at hap-hazard, look! they turn out to be a ship with all her sails." Apparently Turner undertook the painting—which was returned to him—for the collector Elhanan Bicknell, who had made his fortune in the whale-oil business.

  • Toile: The printed canvas, which shall not be confused with an artwork painted on a canvas, is a digital image printed from a UV direct printing machine. Additionally, a canvas produces a attractive and comfortable effect. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is quite simple to hang your Canvas print without additional wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for all kinds of walls.
  • Impression d'affiche (matériel de toile): Our poster print is a UV printed canvas with a nice surface finish. It is appropriate for framing your art replica with the help of a custom frame. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the poster we add a white margin of something between 2-6cm around the work of art, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
  • Aluminium dibond (impression métallique): These are metal prints on aluminium dibond with an outstanding depth effect. The non-reflective surface make a modern impression. For the Aluminium Dibond option, we print your chosen artpiece on the aluminium composite white-primed surface. The bright & white parts of the original artpiece shimmer with a silky gloss, however without glow.
  • Impression sur verre acrylique: The acrylic glass print, which is often named as a plexiglass print, will turn an artwork into stunning décor and is a viable alternative option to dibond and canvas prints. The artwork will be made with state-of-the-art UV print machines. The great benefit of an acrylic glass fine art print is that contrasts plus artwork details become more exposed with the help of the fine gradation.
